What is your organization doing to champion damage prevention in BC:

  • Safety is FortisBC’s number one priority. With over 50,000 km of underground gas lines and electric powerlines, damage prevention is always top of mind at FortisBC. Preventing damage to buried infrastructure ensures that we can continue to deliver energy safely and reliably to our customers.
  • We continually reinforce the “dig safe” message with homeowners and excavators to educate them about the hazards of underground utilities and the ways they can protect themselves from the costs and safety risks associated with unwanted damage.
  • The first step in avoiding that damage is to contact BC 1 Call before excavating. Having that information in hand, and following safe digging practices, helps protect the individuals who are excavating – and prevents potentially costly mistakes.
