BC 1 Call was in Victoria, B.C. on April 3, enthusiastically participating in the BC Common Ground Alliance’s MLA Day and celebrating the proclamation of Safe Digging Month.

BC 1 Call president Donna Grant and Board Director Pat Miller, executive director of Public Works Association of BC, were eager to share the importance of the “Click Before You Dig” safety message and its critical contribution to damage prevention across the province, to a receptive and energized audience of stakeholders and legislators.

The event, organized by BCCGA team members Dr. Dave Baspaly, M. J. Whitemarsh, and Cheryl Hogg, supported by board members Mike Roberts of BC Municipal Safety Association, Tony Millikin, and Don Schouten of WorkSafeBC, gave participants a chance to meet and network with MLAs from both the NDP and BC Conservative parties including Trevor Halford, Elenore Sturko, Donegal Wilson, Reann Gasper, Harman Bhangu, Bruce Banman, Brittny Anderson, Nina Krieger, and many more.

Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions Adrian Dix who introduced the group to the legislature before Question Period began and spoke to the group at lunch.

BC 1 Call spoke with with operations staff from the Capital Regional District, including Todd Scaber, Hayden Earle, and Sam Anderson, who were at MLA Day to spotlight the front-line importance of safe ground disturbance. Locator training guru Ronald Enns and Randy Gatz of LineStar Utility Supply also offered their important and unique perspectives on #SafeDigging practices.

FortisBC’s Jimmy Yip, Toni Moliere, and Ada Nadison lent their expertise to the meeting, networking with Matt Pitcairn, President of the BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association and Chris Atchison, President of the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA), which is also celebrating BC Construction Month in April.
